I would suggest buying a kit from a place like Tandy Leather to get you through the basics of marking and coloring the leather, then you can later buy raw pieces and cut out designs. You will need (or find in the kit) the leather and lacing, some punches for making design features and coloring. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/ do an eSearch for ‘leather working kits’ for other sources.

Go here http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/ . You can buy kits to get you started that have everything you would need for the projects.Click on leathercraft kits on the left side.Once you do a couple things from kits, you’ll have an idea of what types of tools should be high on your preference list to do custom work, and then go from there. If you feel like making some mocassins, order a kit and make me a pair too!!! Have fun with it!

I’d probably go to the library first and get a book. It yould have a supply list and patterns. Good luck!
