Why Don’t I like Being Paid For My Hobbies?

I love to bake cakes (cake decor and all), make DVDs, and build computers. Every time my mother has people who will pay me to do these things, I don’t like it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m as broke as the next guy and I could use the money to be more productive (buy more sophisticated materials). Still, I just can’t charge people for the things I love the most. I put love into the cakes I make, I enjoy people’s faces when they see their favorite memories on DVD, and I enjoy building PCs for people who need them. So why don’t I like to make money off of it? Even to cover my expenses?!

Does ROCKHOUNDING fall under, Hobbies or recreation.? And how many Rockhounds are here/ whats your best find?

It can be any time of the year….For me it is cool weather, so I hunt…..I just shot my first Turkey a few weeks ago and now Deer season starts in 2 weeks…..In December or January once the ice is thick enough, we start ice fishing….I also enjoy going fishing from the boat in the warmer months…….But these things keep me moving outside during the cold months…….

I do not want to offend anyone that does not agree with hunting, it is just something we do and we also eat what we kill or catch……
outta here—you have lots of things to keep you busy…..you make me tired…just kidding……keep it up……

why do we have dancing,reading books e.t.c as our hobbies?

So, I’m a 20 yr old newly wed that moved into my husband’s house. He’s fine, he goes and plays his video games and everything like nothing. But me, I get so bored and don’t know what to do besides CLEAN. So, have any ideas for hobbies? I know it sounds lame, but I’m a little clueless. I’m kinda of artsy, I like to airbrush and I’m saving for a compressor, but I want to know everyone’s ideas. Thank you so much!

My oh my. The least little suggestion that girls don’t, by and large, collect coins or stamps, build model trains, belong to the chess club, play video games, take much interest in computer programming, choreography, architecture, engineering, writing music, or designing jewelry–and boys do–and the roof falls in! You can Google any and all of the above subjects and check out the respective male and female participation in them. But hey, why would you do that?
Boys have many hobbies and interests compared to girls who have few. This is not an issue. The question–if you will but read it–is why is this so? Your telling me, Mesdames, that you in particular have hobbies and interests is, frankly, neither here nor there. Once again, the question is: Why, generally speaking, do boys have so many hobbies and interests and girls, generally speaking, so few? Are all questions which fairly characterize the differences between the sexes sexist? Perhaps they are. Then we will need to know why that is so.

We have not had any problems in our relationship. I have been his friend and supporter and he has been mine. He tells me out of no where he wants a break to explore his hobbies. Then he says that the break is because he is not a good man yet. I feel like he is just trying to tell me anything to get away. I know he flirts with other girls. He wants a break but then he wants me to not date other men. Should I be upset or understanding?? I feel like I am just being left out in the cold because I really dont understand why he is doing this.

It is very frustrating to find your self at almost 40 and in a relationship that allows time for yourself, and don’t have anything to do? much less already have plans of your own? I Loooove being out and about, just haven’t had much exposure outside of the local. Definitely not a sheltered life, actually a little adventerous some might say. I’m just not looking for those kind of adventures anymore. I don’t really have any “interests”. There are activities that I enjoy, but I wouldn’t call them “interests” or hobbies. I’m just not that artsy-craftsy, into board games, or sports. If a man goes somewhere on his own, if it is in his character he can easily join in conversation or groups without much of a problem. On the other hand if a woman does this she is usually suspect of either being motivated sexually or just plain weird and to be avoided. Where do you go? What do you do? When your outgoing but have nowhere to go????

Hobbies Good For Keeping Busy? (Semi-Long but easy read, and I will pick a best answer)?

To keep this short – I have been diagnosed as clinically depressed, also with severe generalized anxiety (trait anxiety was off the charts but my state anxiety was normal), also ADHD predominance in attention deficit, (although my therapist suspects this is due to the GAD).

I’m going to be starting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy soon as I don’t like taking medication for anything.

I would like a hobby that could keep me busy during the summer. I am a training Powerlifter, so I work out 5 days a week, sometimes up to 3 times a day.
(Not all weights of course, can’t over train, but for example it will be like – Weight lifting in the morning, cardio afterwards, then something fun like biking, skateboarding or just walking around the park later in the day).

I like to stay busy, it distracts me from thinking or worrying too much. School helps me stay busy too.
I was just wondering what little hobbies you guys may have had that helped you keep your hands busy, help with the depression.
For example I was thinking maybe taking a class at a local community college (I’m a senior in HS, getting ready to go to a UNI in the fall but I’ve previously enrolled in CC in the past). I was thinking a class like carpentry, masonry, welding or something. Something for my hands. Something I could build and take with me.

I’ve already done an art class, and I really hate drawing/painting anything like that.

So yeah, appreciated, and I’ll actually pick a best answer lol.

To the guy who said Cognitive Behavior Therapy is horse shit – Some people are into popping any kind of pills and some people aren’t.
I like living a healthy lifestyle without medication if I can help it. I’d rather try a method that involves truly curing the problem or learning to cope/deal with it instead of masking it with a pill.

I’m not just depressed because I just am, I have reasons why, and I need to confront and deal with these reasons, just in the meantime I’d like to find way to keep my hands and mind busy.
I have tried some meds before and they’ve all made me feel like sh!t and worst of all, they suck me dry of life that I can’t even powerlift anymore, much less eat (Adderall). It’s just not worth it to me. I need to find a healthier more natural way.

I’m a female teenager and now that I’m being homeschooled, I need to find another way to be outdoors daily doing something fun. My mother’s eyesight has progressively become worse over the last couple of years due to illness. She’s a homebody, and can no longer drive so getting out is difficult. She is legally blind, but can still see to a degree. I want to find ways to keep her spirits up and her mind occupied but don’t know what kinds of hobbies or crafts would be easy for her to do?
