While talking to a friend, I mentioned that I was making a 1:64th scale (S-scale) model of my girlfriend* of two years (and hopefully, soon to be fiancée) which I intend to place in a model of my Jeep, sitting next to a model of myself, on my model train layout.
My friend, who has a BA in psychology (yet is currently working at Staples), insisted that this is “classic obsessive behavior,” and went on to suggest that I wanted to make a small version of my girlfriend so that I could control her.
Of course, I have no such motive and merely chose to construct a model of her so that I could (hopefully) impress her, do something nice for her, and thank her for tolerating my weird hobby. Plus, I always try to construct my models, whether they be the trains themselves, the layout, or the buildings, people, and vehicles that sit on it, from actual prototypes-and she’s a particularly beautiful ‘prototype’…
When I told him this, he only said that my actions were nearly “textbook obsessive”…
Do those of you who have a background in psychology agree with my friend or, even if my actions resemble an example in a textbook, are they the nice gesture I intend them to be???
*I’m making the model of my girlfriend by modifying an existing Arttista Accessories 1:64th scale white metal model to give it her hair style, cloths that match hers, her skin tone, and her features (which are better and more defined then are available on the stock figure).
