To me this is just creepy:
WASHINGTON – Many people like to stop and play with newborn babies, but now some adult women are playing house with fake babies.
Some women are even going as far as taking day trips with the fake babies to the park, out to eat, and even hosting birthday parties for them.

Forty-nine-year-old Linda is married with no children of her own. Now, she says she feels like a mother because she has Reborns — dolls made to look and feel like the real thing. ABC 7 Talkback:

“It’s not a crazy habit, like, you know, drinking, or some sort of, something that’s going to hurt you. It’s like a hobby.and it doesn’t really hurt anybody,” Linda said.

These women are paying big bucks for this hobby, from $100 to a few thousand dollars. For Reborn owner Lachelle Moore, the fake babies fill a void.

“What’s so wonderful about Reborns is that, um, they’re forever babies,” said Moore, who has grown children and grandchildren. “There’s no college tuition, no dirty diapers… just the good part of motherhood,” she added.

In her Kansas City home, Moore even has an elaborate room for the dolls. She organizes birthday parties, bakes a cake and even invites guests.

Psychologists say there could be a problem if and when these women stop interacting socially with others in their life.

I’m a guy, and for more than a hand-full of times, I hang out with a girl once or twice, then get ignored. It’s the typical “I’m a busy girl” or no call/text back. I am always the one that has to contact the girl because they never do, but I also keep my distance so I don’t look like a stalker or anything. I dunno, I joke around with ‘em, make ‘em laugh, all that crap. I don’t look desperate or wierd cuz I know what that is. It

30 years ago, my grandma’s best friend had [only] 21 cats. The whole house stunk, and some of the cats always made a mad dash for the front door every time it opened. She had no kids. I wonder whatever became of her after my grandma died.

Hi. I am 31, male, single and in reasonably good health…thin and handsome. My problem is I can’t find any single women anywhere, i always ask in usually subtle ways to find out, so that I don’t waste my time pursuing a woman who does not want to be pursued. I even went back to college to meet a woman, been here for 3 years…only 1 date, no 2nd.
I have tried online dating, even paying for a 6 month membership…only 2 women even responded to my rather well thought out emails (I sent out almost 200)…no dates, they just dissappeared.

As a geographer, I understand the world’s population is over 53% male and getting more men by the day! This translates to almost 900 milllion more men than women. In the US, that ratio is not quite so high but it is still not balanced in favor of men. 51% male…only place women are in majorities…nursing homes and historically black universities….neither place is suitable for a young white man can find dates…HBU’s because black women are racist towards white men because of some percieved notion of slaves and owners…plus the black women are obssessed with finding only good black men…ahem Barrack Obama!

I desperately want to meet a woman and get maried, so that I can finally put these thoughts in the ground and live a normal life. I am sorry but I hate being single, becuase i have been single way longer than a good looking man should ever have to be. I grew out of my longings of “playing the field”. I am shy, and have tried counseling but it has not worked well enough to attract women…i don’t have many hobbies, and I live in a small town, with a large undergraduate population that is mostly male, and I dont’ have any friends who have gf’s with single galpals. It usually takes a woman to set a man up with a woman.

As a whole, when you look at the modern day woman, either the girl next door, or the glossy celebrities, do you see a difference in her and the modern day woman of the 80’s, 70’s, 60’s? 50’s? etc.
All of these women fought for us to be seen as equal. To not be objects or baby machines. To be able to pursue any career, dream, pasttime, hobby we want. When I look at women today, I see a bunch of girls. Silly girls. Men don’t have to objectify women, women do it to themselves now. Am I alone in my sadness towards the loss of the strong woman? Am I alone in mourning the true women’s movement? Not the femi-nazi’s, they are a different bunch. The women who truly just wanted the same rights as the men. No special treatment, just equality.
Let me add this on…
I was around during the womens movement. I know there are strong women out there today, and I sure as hell don’t get my facts or opinions from tv. It is the age group 25 and under that worries me. The Girls Gone Wild generation. The binge drinking generation. The sex bracelet generation. The girls who when polled see oral sex the same as a kiss goodnight. That is not sexual freedom. That is being a garbage can.

My women friends are always complaining about the crappy guys they date. “John is so inconsiderate…” “Dave just never listens…” “This is the second time I have caught Kevin cheating on me…” I’m getting tired of giving advice…over and over and over… For the love of God!!! Why don’t they get it? You can’t change people!!!!

Some behaviors are modifiable with some training. Peeing on the toilet seat or the wall…totally modifiable. Putting the toothpaste cap back on the tube…totally modifiable. Cussing…totally modifiable. Hobbies…NOT MODIFIABLE. Cheating…NOT MODIFIABLE. Abusing…NOT MODIFIABLE. Womanizing…NOT MODIFIABLE. Daily routines (sleeping in/going to bed late, watching Sunday sports with friends, etc.)…probably NOT MODIFIABLE.

Why don’t many women get this?

Women just seem to keep on doing what they were doing all through life, friends, kids, hobbies, other activities, their identity wasnt/isnt tied to their job as much as mens is.

Retirement isnt a loss of identity and self esteem for woman as much as it is for men IMO.

It seems so much harder for men to face up to the fact that they are no longer employed, that their physical strength has diminished, that they encounter many physical challenges they cant always handle like they did when they were young. I think many men feel vulnerable as seniors.

They lose some independence, their world gets smaller because a lot of their focus and achievement was outside the home, and was a huge part of who they were.

My dad was “the bread winner”, the “fixer”, the person who was strong and in charge and could handle anything. When he retired he didnt know who he was anymore.

When he was always working he didnt have time for hobbies so had none, other than reading.
My dad passed away in 2001. He died from pneumonia, I believe if he had been more active he would have more resistence. He was almost 87 when he died, but he spent the last 17 years of his life sitting in the rocking chair and telling stories about his days in the army.

I tried to get him to volunteer with a youth group teaching wood working etc. He refused to try anything new.

By age 77 or so I was having to be the parent, taking him to the doctor, talking to the doctor, handling everything for him. He just “wasted away” when he retired. Prior to retiring he owned a Guiders Outfitters company and 2 lodges and was so active, taking out hunting parties on horse back etc.

It was like once that life was gone there was no life left.

I answered a question earlier from a woman who was upset that her husband took the morning to go for a motorcycle ride instead of sitting at home. I do not intend to be partisan or more forgiving towards a specific gender (in this case men), but for the sake of this question I am asking about women and materialism/vainness.

I do not live a completely austere lifestyle as I occasionally buy items for my own entertainment, but I feel that being frugal and conservative in your spending habits are great character traits.

One aspect of how I feel some women I encounter are materialistic/vain is their willingness to shop, whether it be on decorations, clothing or other items. If you have enough shoes (two or three pairs of good shoes), what reason do you have to own more other than you enjoy them? I suppose this could be a null argument and could easily be countered with a question questioning the usefulness of my spending habits, e.g. “why do you buy books if you already have them?” but I am just attempting to convey my ideas. However, say for example you have 10 pairs of shoes. In my opinion that seems rather excessive regardless of how much you enjoy shoes.

In addition to spending in excess, I notice that many women are always concerned with makeup, etc. I know that many women want to look attractive and that society often pushes women to care TOO much about their appearance. I agree that women can make themselves quite attractive using makeup, and I am aware that it gives them self confidence, but I would prefer to see a woman who prefers not to wear makeup or at least wears very little of it to one who routinely uses makeup. If nobody wore makeup then wouldn’t our perception of beauty be that which is normal instead of embellished?

Anyways, that is enough of me spewing my ideas at you. For this question I am mainly talking about women whose main hobby is shopping.
I commend women who aren’t materialistic/vain and who are frugal. It is a HUGE plus in their favor to me. However, there are far too many women who are not this way. The idea that once a woman marries a man “all his money is hers” is on that deserves reproach.

“Money’s only purpose is to be spent… Why should you worry about what other people do with their money?” Frankly because people who shop all the time seem to be obsessed with themselves or think that money is one of the most important possessions in the world. Money is very important but love of money is wrong. I don’t like it when people are wasteful, plain and simple. People who have 15 pairs of shoes have an unnecessary excess. If you go and spend money all the time (especially money you do not have) then it is likely bills, etc. are not getting paid. Also, it isn’t wrong to buy things for yourself but with the money you don’t spend you could be saving or donating to charity to help people who just barely make it.

I am a 33 year old virgin guy. While I have been on a few dates, I have never been in a relationship or had sex. There are several reasons for this but it is mainly because I am shy around women I like (I find it hard to call a woman or approach her at a bar, etc…), have a lot of hobbies, and have concentrated on my education and degrees. I now have a great job and have done quite of few things by myself so, recently, I have thought about trying to date and maybe even marry eventually.
